Crossroads: Mortgage Update

I have something completely amazing to tell you.

When our mortgage nearly doubled due to an increase in our required wind/hail policy, I was in shock but we went to work, selling what we could and calling the mortgage and insurance companies. Over the past couple of weeks, we have known God was going to do something amazing. We wanted to follow Him step-by-step, living for each day.

Bill prompted us to remember that we have everything we need TODAY. We wanted to keep our focus close and not worry about the days ahead. It is never easy to not think about tomorrow, next week, next month, next year… but we tried. Some days, we did better than others.

Last week, we were able to get a lower insurance rate. It was significantly less than what the mortgage company had purchased on our behalf, but we were not sure how it would change our monthly note.

On Tuesday, we officially listed our house for sale. After the realtor left, Bill went out to check the mail and we received the confirmation that our new wind/hail policy was effective. He called our mortgage company to make sure they had received the same notice. They received it a few days before we did and had already changed our payment. The new payment is…

LOWER than our payment was before the increase.

I have no earthly idea how that is even possible. I questioned Bill over and over again to make sure it was correct. He assured me that he had written it down just as the agent told him.

Only God could do that.

Now, the question is, “Will we still need to sell our house?”

I do not see it as a coincidence that God prompted us to sell our home nor do I see it as an accident that we did not receive the mail and new payment information until after the realtor had left. So, our house will remain on the market but the urgency to move is gone.

You might also be wondering what will happen with the money which was made through selling items through the Secondhand Sisterhood and the benefit auction. The increased mortgage payment for the month February took the money we had budgeted for our utility bills. I am so happy to report that Bill and I went Wednesday and paid all of these expenses so we begin the month of March with a clean slate. The small amount of proceeds remaining will be put right back into this blog’s hosting fees so that we can continue to share what we are learning about frugal living with others in hopes that they can learn from our story and avoid the mistakes we have made.

Now, we are just waiting to see what else God has planned. We are still living one day at a time, knowing that tomorrow could hold a trouble all of its own.

Thank you for all of your sweet prayers! Our God is an awesome God.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
